Generation One - Two

1. Giles¹ Rogers, Sr., b. 1643, d. 1730; m. Rachel Eastham.  Notes for Giles Rogers: Giles Rogers Sr., was named after the patron Saint "Giles" of Edinburgh, Scotland, where he was born. He was well educated and after maturity moved to and settled in Worcestershire, England; where he married Rachel Eastham (pronounced "Esam"). Giles Sr. and Rachel had six children - three born in England, one born on-board ship, and two born in America. Giles Sr.'s motto being "Act Justly and Fear Not."  Giles was the nephew of Thomas Rogers, who had emigrated to America on the Mayflower.  Giles made a preliminary trip to America, and then in 1680, immigrated in his own ship, bringing with him his wife, three children, artisans, and servants, laborers, and materials for constructing buildings, etc. He settled in King and Queen County, Virginia, near the present town of Dunkirk. He died about 1715 at the age of about ninety years old.

2i. Giles, Jr², b. 1673, m. unknown. Notes for Giles Rogers, Jr.: Giles Rogers Jr., took up land in Hanover County, Virginia at maturity and later went to Halifax County, on the border of North Carolina. Later still he crossed into North Carolina and settled near Albemarle Sound, North Carolina. 10/14/1997 - LDS archives show Giles Rogers, born 1673 in King & Queen County, Virginia (not England).. 

2iv. John² Rogers (Giles¹ ), b. 1680. Notes for John Rogers: John Rogers, b. 1680 on shipboard at sea, or after the vessel came to anchor in the Chesapeake Bay. He obtained a fairly good education, and at manhood became an explorer and land surveyor, and took up much land in the "Tide-water" section of Virginia. He m. 1716 Mary Byrd (poss)**, b. 1683, youngest. daughter of Col. William Byrd (the elder) by Mary Horsmanden, his wife--of "Westover," VA; and they had & reared nine children, of whom there is complete record. She d. 1763-4, in her 81st year; and he, ab. 1768 at nearly 88 years old--and both were buried at 'Old Park Church,' K&Q Co., VA--John Cox Underwood **Notes for Wife Mary M. Byrd: There is some discrepancy here. The Rogers line contends thus: Mary was disowned by her family but she said she did not regret it even if she never saw any of her family again. She stayed with her sick mother until the mother died and then left with only the clothes on her back. She told her children and grandchildren who she was. It has been passed down.
