"Think Big" was a promotional self-mailer brochure created by the editorial team (which I was editor of) in University Relations at University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), while I worked there.  We prepared quite a number of promotional pieces for the Admissions department for recruitment of students, and sent them out to be printed on coated card stock.

Gold and Treasure Hunter was a bi-monthly magazine I produced for several years. I was managing editor with full control of all editorial material, and did all the layout and design of the publication, preparing it for prepress. It was a nationally distributed, four-color magazine.  I also prepared almost all of the advertising copy inside, working closely with advertisers.  Fully digitized, I prepared this publication using desktop publishing programs and scan equipment on both Mac and PC OS.  Click on the image for a larger version.

Northern Parallel is a newsletter that I prepared bi-monthly at UAF for the chancellor, to be sent to UAF supporters such as alumni, and those who gave financial support to the university. I prepared articles of timely news that would be of interest to that particular group for his approval, and it was then sent out to be printed. This is a self-mailer also, sent folded in a trifold shape. A larger version, as well as the other side, can be seen by clicking on the image above. I also prepared a newsletter for all university staff every two weeks, that was printed on campus.

Northern Homes & Land brochure was done for a realtor.  The brochure is used to provide her clients with her philosophy, her methods, her qualifications, and the successful conclusion she has come to with her clients.  Barbara wanted a brochure that she could make some minor changes to, and one that she could print on her color printer or her laser printer, keeping her costs to a minimum while having a very professional brochure available.  She can also bring it to me for more extensive changes, and still save money with this same basic design.  Click on the photo for a larger version.

The "Moose" postcard is a sample of a postcard we created for Northern Homes & Land to promote the opening of the company website.  Designed to fit some Paper Direct postcards they had in stock, address labels of clients could be used on the other side, making this a very low-cost, but professional looking promotional piece that could be printed on their laser jet printer in the office for mailing.  Click on the photo for a larger version.

The UAF Telephone Directory is printed each year, and I completed one while I was there.  In addition to updated telephone numbers, it now supplies email addresses for all employees and departments, and website addresses for those departments that have them, and other information.  A major project of 68 pages, it requires cooperation with each department of the university, coordination with database personnel and the editorial staff.  The cover image is of artwork chosen from a show with work by native village high school students in special university classes.

Omnitron Genesis II is a sample of a full page ad I created for GTH magazine.  To provide the highest quality image for digitized issues, all ads were created for advertisers, or re-created, unless they had film, for which there was no loss of quality.  This advertiser liked to change his ad copy often, and it was less expensive for him to have me create the ads than to have it professionally done, separately, at a pre-press house.  To view a larger image, click on the image above. In the larger image you will note that the quality of this scan is impaired by the fact that I scanned from a magazine page, and the copy on the reverse side of the page can be dimly seen through the background of the foreground images.

Important Safety Information was a brochure mandated by the federal government, in which each university must print their crime statistics for the past five years.  This is done with cooperation and statistics provided by the UAF Police Department, and brochures are done for the six satellite campuses of UAF.  This is a trifold brochure that is produced for each of the campuses, to be given out to new students and to have readily available for all new and returning students.  There were a number of other informational brochures that I prepared while at UAF, each dealing with a specific subject that could best be presented in this manner.  For a larger version, click on the image above.
